With the death toll in the devastating floods rising to 114 in Kerala, and more than one lakh people living in relief camps across the state, the Centre on Thursday, 16 August, deployed all three wings of the armed forces in a massive rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the state on Friday, 17 August.
- CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that water levels are expected to increase, and assured deployment of additional helicopters

- A red alert has been issued in all 14 districts
- 24 dams across the state had been opened, leading to flooding of towns and villages
- The Kochi airport will remain shut till 26 August
